Children’s Homes

NationS: Sri Lanka, Myanmar and indonesia

Sri Lanka

The children homes in Sri Lanka have been in operation since 1998 when the first home opened with 11 girls. Since then two new homes have been built to house more girls on the same property. A property was also purchased in order to build a new home for boys. All of the children in the homes have been affected in some way by the war and civil unrest in Sri Lanka. This has resulted in them being displaced, physiologically affected and discriminated against. The homes have government permission to care for up to 40 children overall. The age of children generally ranges from 5-18 years. The homes maintain a family-like environment by ensuring a high level of individual care, with a ratio of approx. 1:5 carers to children.

The homes ensure all children under their care are sent to primary and secondary schools within the community, assures all medical and healthcare needs are met, provides all subsistence needs (i.e. food, clothing, shelter, water, sanitation, recreation etc.), and commits to continually support their overall physical, emotional, mental and intellectual development. These homes do not seek to simply provide welfare for the children that are suggested to our team; they seek to empower children to be all that they can be.

Our children’s homes are currently running a three year tax deductible project. If you would like to discover more about the project please visit Global Development Group or you can look at the Tax Deductible Projects tab of this website.

Myanmar

The Myanmar Project has been running for several years in Mandalay. In partnership with a pastor from Myanmar, Portlife Church now assists formerly at-risk children. They live at the Life House, attend a local school and are thriving in a small family setting. God has enlarged their vision to include more children and families in Mandalay, so they now work alongside the Beulah Preschool, as they outwork their vision to care for younger children.
